Healthcare today is doing its best. In a system where providers care for their patients, the system ultimately feels stuck, clunky, limited and draining. And the aging population? Despite the fact it is one of the largest growing and biggest economic sectors, falls victim to the cracks.

Imagine if evolving technology is impeccably designed for hyper personalized care for 45+ consumers. With the goal of helping people feel like the independent people they’ve always been. High performance based solutions that cater to individual needs and improve your holistic wellbeing and happiness. Perhaps healthcare has felt like a dead end in the past -- with no step by step guidance, no inspiration and few satisfying results. It’s not about the individual, it’s about the system. You can achieve your health goals with a care plan designed to help everyone feel successful, build better relationships and prioritize their health.

Through the SCAD PRO alliance class we were able to bring together different stakeholders from the health-care industry. We had the opportunity to facilitate hands on collaboration with groups of people who rarely communicate this deep about their consumer markets needs. We worked with Insurance companies , Device designers , providers and digital patient monitoring solution companies.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

In a unique opportunity to collaborate with a team of student designers. From incumbents to startups, these stakeholders began a conversation around common needs and opportunities for relationships in healthcare to grow. Utilizing the knowledge and values provided by complimentary partners creates an Alliance showcasing their perspectives. 

How might we improve the in-home engagement experience enabled by active and passive data collection for at risk patients over the age of 45?

Getting eight partners together with a team of design students to solve for the future is a great concept, but how could something like this unfold? In short, tireless nights of our dedicated team ideated and re-ideated on the process just as much as our concepts. We asked more questions than we could possibly answer and learned how to embark on such a large design challenge.

Individual Data Points What Matters to the User Key Issues Core Stories

To decipher the priorities and insights each stakeholder has about their end users, we conducted hour long interviews with every company. Each interview gave a deeper understanding to what incumbents and start ups have to say. Seeing how they interact together with varied end users, purposes and values gets developed through the affinitization process. 

We took every observation gathered from the interviews and began organizing them across the individual company. Cluster groups of individual observations help identify deeper perspectives and are then organized across all eight companies. This helps to synthesize the research into actionable insights.

Is the one-stop-shop for all post-hospital physical therapy needs.

We provide a safe and inviting environment where patients physical therapy exercises are completed during virtual experiences. RediscoVR allows patients to enter an immersive and fun world where they forget all about the physical therapy. Located in retail clinics, RediscoVR is accessible to a range of demographics. Real-time data collections informs physical therapists and physicians of progress. RediscoVR captivates patients, while providing the medical industry with a safe, effective, and financially feasible solution to issues with physical therapy adherence.

 

SERVICE STATEMENT

RediscoVR provides easier access for physical therapy by partnering with retail clinics. RediscoVR uses real-time data collection & analysis to inform physicians about their patient’s progress & accuracy of exercise. We leverage the power of gamified systems to engage and structure patient therapy based on individual needs. Unlike existing services that require a physician to administer the therapy, RediscoVR uses a state of the art peripheral support system to enable safety & accuracy data collection.

WHY VR?

Virtual Reality is an ever growing platform in the healthcare industry with potential to better relationships between patients and providers, adding depth to the connections. VR adds an element of adventure to physical therapy and empowers patients to become more responsible for their own care. While virtual reality engages patients, data can be actively and passively collected in parallel.

Virtual reality is a fast-growing market. Though today VR is still in its infancy, It will not be long until virtual reality becomes a part of everyday life. Medicine is one of the fastest-growing adopters of VR, second only to the gaming industry. Virtual reality immerses patients in an experience where they must use their own body to see and interact with the world inside their headset. The immersive properties of VR create a great opportunity for physical therapy applications as physical movement is required. Retail clinics are a growing space. Most top retail clinics like Walmart and CVS are looking to expand the scope of services offered. We believe that RediscoVR would fit right into their business model and provide mutual benefit for patients, providers and the insurance companies.
